Design a Tutorial for YOU!

NOTE: Submit your documentation to this Google Form before class on 2/13/25

Design a technique tutorial just for you. It just has to be for YOU – no one else. The goal is to This can take any form that works best for you: step by step with images on a google doc, zine with images, video, etc. You must include the following five elements:

  • Learning Goal. What should a person who is following this (i.e. you) be able to do when they are finished
  • Prior Knowledge. What should someone already be able to do in order to leverage this tutorial.
  • Materials and Tools. What do they need to complete this.
  • Tutorial Steps. What is the process does a person need to follow to meet the learning goal.
  • Tips. Include 2-3 tips for implementation or debugging.

You can choose one of the three levels below:

Level 1: Redesign a tutorial from class. Using the existing tutorials as a start, create a new version with your own content. For example, create a video of how to fuse conductive fabric. Recommended if you are not as familiar with the techniques.

Level 2: Extend or deepen a tutorial from class. You might add more detail to the steps, create a similar sequence with new materials, or build a tutorial around the next step in the process that you want to learn. For example, soldering to conductive fabric or sewing with conductive thread. Recommended  if you are familiar with the techniques, but want to push yourself.

Level 3: Design a new tutorial. Pick a different, but relevant craft technique that you would like to explore in this course and create a step by step guide for it. It is up to you how to scope it; for example, crocheting a granny square vs teaching a double crochet stitch. Recommended if you are already familiar and/or confident with the techniques.

Remember that this is for you, so pick a level and approach that is the right level of challenge and, most importantly, excites you! This is a new assignment, so there are no examples of student work.

Note: You are not allowed to use an generative AI tool to create the tutorial for you. You may use it to refine your first draft.
